Good biosecurity helps protect poultry, other animals and farm operations. Requirements can change, so check current official notices and local restrictions before moving birds, eggs, equipment or people.
Practical biosecurity checklist
- Check regional notices, current housing requirements and any local disease-control zones.
- Clean and disinfect housing, equipment and vehicles appropriately; remove dirt first and follow product labels.
- Use dedicated clean clothing and footwear for poultry areas; clean and disinfect boots between areas.
- Restrict and record visitors, and ensure anyone entering follows your hygiene and biosecurity procedures.
- Protect feed, water and bedding from wild birds and other wildlife; keep storage and access points secure.
- Maintain clear records of visitors, bird movements, cleaning and any unusual illness or mortality.
- If you suspect disease, minimise contact and movements, and promptly contact the relevant regional authority or follow its reporting instructions.
Official guidance by jurisdiction
Rules differ across the UK and Ireland. Check current official declarations and local zones with the authority responsible for your location. Measures announced for England do not automatically apply elsewhere.

Products and safe use
Product suitability and any official approval depend on intended use and applicable requirements. Always read and follow the product label and safety data sheet; do not assume a product prevents or treats disease.
